A pavilion that’s anything but typical—a flexible event space crafted from the unexpected beauty of bark beetle wood, pushing the boundaries of sustainable design. Set on the
TU Darmstadt campus, this structure isn’t just about function; it’s a statement piece for the DELTA research project. The innovative use of bark beetle wood turns a problem into a feature, showcasing how materials often overlooked can be transformed into something striking and purposeful.

The pavilion’s design is all about adaptability. With foldable walls draped in fabrics repurposed directly from Arno Brandlhuber’s Lobeblock in Berlin, the space can shift and change to suit any event, from intimate gatherings to larger crowds. It’s a blend of raw, natural elements with cutting-edge design thinking—where architecture meets innovation head-on. The pavilion doesn’t just adapt to its
environment; it enhances it, making a bold statement about the future of sustainable construction.
